South Somerset Economic Development Strategy: Aerospace and advanced engineering sector specialisms

CCL was instructed to prepare the new Economic Development Strategy (EDS) for the ten year period 2018-2028. The geographical scope of the Strategy was focused on South Somerset, but with a wider sphere of influence and spatial dimension necessary in order to place the District within the sub-regional and regional/national economic context.

The District has a clear hierarchy of settlements and centres for economic growth (particularly advanced manufacturing and aerospace engineering), with Yeovil, Chard and Wincanton as the predominant towns, each with extensive networks of smaller settlements and employment locations.

The EDS was developed through a combination of secondary and primary research; information and data analysis; and wider-spread engagement with key business, technical and professional stakeholders.
